Christmas Special from Forest Radio

This year (2021) our Christmas Special programme (below) is sound only

Running time: 69 minutes 29 seconds

This programme, which was recorded at the Elmsdale Road house on Christmas Eve 2021, consists of personal thoughts and recollections about the year ending and hopes and fears for the one about to begin. A solid year of Covid anxieties has made it more difficult to be "merry", and a lot of the territory covered here is fairly serious, as one might expect. Jean was unavailable during most of the session but joined us later to record her own reminiscences of 2021. The music was chosen by the three people involved in the making of the programme, Adele, Jean and David. We hope it will be the first of a much more regular series of programmes and stand-alone items as (fingers crossed) Covid restrictions begin to be lifted. Here is a list of the music used:

Handel's Messiah - "For Unto Us a Child is Born" - Tabernacle Choir - The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - Fayette, New York (2016)

"The Cherry Tree Carol" - Joan Baez - (1961) from the text contained in the “N-Town Plays” performed in the English Midlands around 1500

Mary Gauthier - "Christmas in Paradise" (2002)

Frank ifield - "Lovesick Blues" (1962)

Elvis Presley - "Return To Sender" (1962)

Darlene Love - "Winter Wonderland" - from Phil Spector's "Christmas Gift For You" album (1963)

The Ronettes - "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus" - from Phil Spector's "Christmas Gift For You" album (1963)

John Huffman - "Christmas In The Trenches" (2006)

East 17 - "Stay Another Day" Waltham Forest Youth Choir (2019)
