Conversation With Ahmed Hussain About Making the Invisible Visible |
Wayne Walton and David Gardiner spoke to Ahmed Hussein, a wheelchair user, and his carer Eddy Bennett in the Leytonstone Tavern on Wednesday July 3rd 2019. We learned about the meaning of becoming suddenly incapacitated, the impact it has on a person's life and the attitudes to disability that they encounter among the general public. Ahmed made a formal complaint to Transport For London regarding the coarse and degrading attitude of a London bus driver which resulted in a change in the law regarding the right of disabled people to receive priority and (even more imporrtantly) proper respect and courtesy on public transport of all kinds in the UK. A quietly spoken and thoughtful man, he has been able to fight a successful campaign to secure the dignity and self respect of his fellow sufferers from disabilities of all kinds. |
